- GOLDEN RETRIEVERS, HORSES & CATS
introducing sebastian, our newest golden retriever, born 8/11/10, came to live with us about 10/11/10, joining dylan, our 3 year old black lab/border collie mix, and tucker, our 11 year old yellow lab. the first few photos are of the litter at 4 weeks, we had not picked any yet, just meeting them and the mother and the breeder, the blue ribbon shows our pick, sebastian, made at 7 weeks when the personalities are more developed. the rest are of growing up the last few months
this album will also be added to from time to time with shots of our horses and our cats

a trip to san diego for the zoo, some other tourist stuff and a padres game at petco park. followed by a flight back to phoenix and a game at chase field

on saturday, 3/23/12, i attended a photo charter on the potomac eagle scenic train, headquarted in romney, west birginia. the motive power was F units from the 1940's and a gp-9. it was a beautigul day of sunshine wiht almost no clouds and even though it started out a little chilly, it warmed up nicely by mid afternoon. lunch and dinner were served on the train, with runbys on the north part of the line suring saylight, and then after dinner a posed night shoot at the sycamore bridge

- 2013 WESTERN MARYLAND SCENIC RAILROAD PHOTO CHARTER TRIP
i once again attended the western maryland scenic railroad photo charter run by carl franz. this year i was able to get to the cumberland region a day early and do some other railfaning, and i also only did 2 days of the charter, fridady, 1/10/13 and saturday 1/11/13. this was due to the long drive home and how fatigued i was last year after attending sunday half day and driving home.

- 2012 MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE
well i did it again this year, i went to the macy's thanksgiving day parade in manhattan, ny. this year i get up early and left the hotel and went uptown by 0600. so at 67th and central park west i was only behind 1 person at the baricade, so some of the photos are a little better, at least i was able to capture my friend jeff, who has marched as a clown for 10 years or more

flew to pittsburgh to watch the brewers play the pirates at pnc park. quite a few milwaukee fans on the plane. beautiful evening, went to pnc park from station square via river boat shuttle. very civilized way to get to the park, and very good to get away after the game. unfortunately the pirates lost in their struggle to get back their winning ways of earlier this season. pnc park is one of if not my favorite in the majors, i just like it's size and amenities.

working on my bucket list again, one of those list things is to see a ballgame in every major league park, all 30 of them, i have a pretty good start, this trip is cleveland and detroit, with cleveland actually a repeat since i did not have a good digital camera when i first caught a game here, in fact it was still called jacobs field at that time. i will be doing a couple of these 3 flights, 2 cities, 2 ballpark trips this year.

also there will be more local geotagged shots as i now have an amod 3080 geo tracklogger and have learned how to sync the tracklog with the photos based on timestamps and waypoints

so after having this site for a few years now, i've finally decided to start an album of local scenes from where we live, the north fork of long island, there may be a few images from other parts of long island that end up here, but the main section will be all north fork images
- BLUE HIGHWAY
bluegrass group blue highway, in concert, shelter island ny, on saturday 1/14/12. outstanding show, as evidenced by the fact i took so few photos, in fact with the exception of 3 throwaways, this small gallery is all i took. i was just caught up in listening to a wonderful evening of bluegrass music. they do have a new cd out, and it is excellent music, for this gallery i selected a track named "some day" from another cd. i did this because the last photo is of them doing this gospel song acapella, they came right down onto the stage front risers, which since our seats were in the front row placed them about 10 feet or so in front of us. it was just soulful, just grabbed me by the heart strings and tugged away.
- WESTERN MARYLAND SCENIC RAILROAD PHOTO CHARTER
friday 1/6/12, saturday 1/7/12, sunday 1/8/12, a carl franz photo charter. On the western maryland scenic railroad from cumberland to frostburg maryland. motive power was #734, affectionately known as mountain thunder. friday was a limited number of riders, about 25 or so using just the caboose to ride in. saturday and sunday were much larger groups using passenger equipment. friday's runby's were also the rare eastbound runby's as the usual trip is westbound to frostburg, where the engine is turned on the turntable and run back nonstop to cumberland.
- 2011 walt disney world christmas trip
12/7/11 - 12/12/11, trip to walt disney world to enjoy the christmas theming, staying at saratoga springs resort, in a studio unit
this trip did not start off to be a photo trip, but because i wanted to take a few, i decided to travel lighter than usual. i took the panasonic lumix g1, with the assortment of lenses i have for it. it's a mirrorless micro 4/3 system, something i picked up while looking to replace my aging point-n-shoot. i went this direction because i got a closeout special at amazon, and i had been watching the M4/3 system development for awhile, paid about the same as a canon g12 would have cost, and i feel this is a much more feature laden system, real manual controls and real versatility. and the body, 5 lenses, spare battery, charger, remote, manual, and a couple step up rings and filters, plus a lowepro shoulder bag, weighs less than my 5dmk2 body with the 24=105 walk around lens. so i ended up taking a fair amount of photos, under a lot of different lighting conditions, and i now have a real good feel for just what this system can and cannot do.
- 2011 MACY'S THANKSGIVING DAY PARADE
i finally got to go to the macy's thanksgiving day parade, i was also in ny the evening before to go to the area of 81st and central park west, where the ballons are inflated and held overnight. the whole experience was sort of a mixed feeling event, it was nice to finally do this, but i would not do the evening inflation thing again, and i learned that if i want any shot at decent parade viewing for photos, i need to moving into position by 6:00 am.

my first photo charter, wherein the train is chartered and the event run specifically oriented towards train photography. many of these if not most are steam oriented, this was a lerro productions charter run on the bel-del as it's isially called, in phillipsburg, new jersey. a night session on saturday 11/5/11, and a daytime session sunday 11/6/11. nice weather, although a little chilly at night.

i finally made it to citifield, big improvement over shea and at least the mets won. i also got to see reyes in a mets uniform. mets 3 marlins 2. all photos taken with a panasonic lumix g1, first test of the g1 at a ballpark, got a few decent photos, enough to probably make it the camera of choice on flyaway stadium trips

5/3/11-5/10/11, an alaskan cruise out of and back to vancouver canada, on the disney cruise line, the wonder. alaska is incredible, everyone should do this at least once in their life. i would do it again. the weather really was in our favor as we had much blue sky, and very little rain. no downpour days at all

1/29/11, the josh williams band, what a great show, funny, enterting, great singing. the crowd was really into it, and so was the band. funny thing was, they were the substitutes for a canceled cherryholmes show. the opener was the mandolin player, nick king, plus 2 locals, buddy merriam and tom hashagen , calling themselves the 3 mandoleros, kind of a last minute thing i presume, although it was some tasty picking, with the cancelation it was not even certain for awhile that shelter island would have it's annual winter bluegrass show this year

on 4/17/10 i traveled to staten island to tour the staten island railroad with the new york division of the electric railroaders association. same group that sponsored the lirr shop tour i attended last year. although i was not able to go on the shop tour part due to having to attend a dinner that evening, i had to leave the group right before the shop tour and head home to long island

4 day visit to chicago in may 2010, i was able to attend a day game at wrigley, do some sightseeing, some railfanning, some good eating. altogether an enjoyable time in a great city

the first section is the flight to orlando, sunday 5/3/09, departed islip macarthur airport at 1040, in the drizzle of course, arrived orlando around 1315, bright sunshine and near 90 degrees, it was 90+ every day in florida, in fact it broke records a couple of the days towards the end of the week

we spent 5/23/07 - 5/26/07 precruise in barcelona spain. what a wonderful, beautiful city. phenomenal architecture, nice people, great climate
the sections are by date and place, i've tried to label the photos by subject, the times are off because i forgot to set my camera to local, so just add 6 hours to the time shown in the exif data
we arrived 0735 local time, pretty well jetlagged, stayed up and walked around until 1200 then
crashed in the hotel until 1800.it was cloudy and sprinkling in the morning, thus the washed out gray skies in the first photos
blue skies and warm when we went back out. took the funicular up montjuic and found a walking path back down then walked the
waterfront to port vell and back to hotel

east end livestock and horseman's association spring trail ride at hallockville restoration farm, a state owned restored turn of the century farm and a sizeable piece of farmland. it started off as a very grey overcast day and did not get clear and sunny until after almost everyone had finished the ride. i took no pictures of the covered dish lunch afterwards as not everyone likes to be photographed while eating, and the horses and the ride are the focus of interest
